Carolina Plett

     Carolina Plett was born on 7 March 1823. She married Klaas Abraham von Riesen, son of Abraham Abraham von Riesen and Margaretha Wiebe, on 10 June 1843 at Altonau, Molotschna. Carolina Plett died on 11 February 1887 at Jansen, Nebraska, at age 63.
     She immigrated on 17 July 1874 to Quebec City, Quebec, arriving aboard the S. S. Austrian. Came to Molotschna colony with her parents in 1828. Became the second wife of Klaas W. Friesen when he was 50 and she was 20. Then together they had another 11 children, though several died as infants. Her husband died in 1870 before the big trek to North America. As a widow with five children she was among the first group of Mennonite settlers that arrived in Manitoba, settling in Blumenort near her step-son Abraham M. Friesen and her son Cornelius P. Friesen. She immediately took out a quarter section in her own name. However, three years later she married Isaak Harms from Nebraska and took five of her dependent children with her to the US where she died in 1887.
