     Gysbert Jansz de Veer was born on 14 May 1556 at Schiedam

Gysbert was most surely baptized into the Catholic faith in infancy, but what is important is that he was re-baptised as an adult into the community of the anabaptists. The church leaders who baptised Gysbert would probably have known Menno Simons personally when they were youths; Menno died in 1559. Gysbert's adult baptisim must have occured sometime in the 1570's or 1580's, at a time when persecution by the political and religious authorities still made life harsh for Mennonites, although the days of great danger were past. He was the son of Jan de Veer.

Gysbert Jansz de Veer married Debora Claesdochter Harnasveger, daughter of Claes Jakobszoon Harnasveger and Weyn Pieters, in 1580 at Amsterdam, Noord-Holland. Gysbert Jansz de Veer died on 17 May 1615 at Danzig at age 59.
